Sandi Bird Sanctuary


Sandi Bird sanctuary having an area 3.09 hect. is situated in Hardoi district on Hardoi-Sandi Road around the Deher Jheal and the Garra river in close vicinity to this sanctuary. This sanctuary has been listed as an "important bird area" by the Bombay natural history society.

Destination Description


Sandi Bird Sanctuary is situated between Latitude 26°53"N to 27°46"N and Longitude 79°41"E to 80°46"E. Sandi welands were declared as Sandi wildlife Sanctuary in the year 1991. It comprises an area of 309 ha and is located on Hardoi-Sandi road, about 20 Km. away from Hardoi Tower. It is also called "Deher Jheel" in common parlance. The 'Garra' river (called 'Garunganga' in ancient times) flows in closed vicinity to the Sandi Bird Sanctuary. It is said that the migratory birds halt for sometime in this river before visiting the Sandi Bird Sanctuary. The aim of the Sanctuary is protection and conservation of the wetland with special emphasis to the local and migratory birds, conservation of their natural habitat including aquatic plants and animals. The Bombay Natural History Society, Mumbai (BNHS) has also listed this Sanctuary as one of the 'Important Bird Area' sites. This wetland is included in the list of wetlands identified under National Wetland Conservation Proramme by The Ministry of Environment & Forest. Govt. of India.

Climate


Sandi Bird Sanctuary has Climate to Genetic plans with maximum temperature of 48°C and minimum temperature of 4°C. Area experience is good rain fall. Mansoon starts from July and ends by September. Winter is too cold.

Sandi Bird Sanctuary is situated 20 Km. away from Hardoi on Hardoi Sandi road is away from Lucknow and Delhi at a distance of 110 Km. and 390 Km. respectively. It is well connected through Lucknow-Delhi Rail Route.
